What is manual lymphatic drainage (MLD)?
Manual lymphatic drainage (MLD) is a specialized massage technique that uses gentle, rhythmic movements to support the movement of lymph fluid through the body's lymphatic system. Unlike traditional massage, it generally uses light pressure and specific sequences of movement.
MLD may be used in appropriate care plans for certain types of swelling and lymphatic concerns. For clients recovering from cosmetic surgery, treatment must be tailored to the procedure, stage of healing, and surgical team's instructions.
What is the difference between lymphatic drainage and a regular massage?
Manual lymphatic drainage uses gentle, specific movements intended to support lymph fluid movement. Traditional massage may use different techniques and pressure to address muscle tension and general relaxation.
The appropriate technique depends on your needs, health history, and treatment goals. Post-operative clients require particular care when selecting the type, timing, and pressure of bodywork.
Is lymphatic massage safe after cosmetic surgery?
It may be appropriate for some clients after surgery, but timing and suitability depend on the procedure, healing stage, medical history, and surgeon's instructions.
Before beginning post-operative bodywork, we review your recovery information and required medical clearance. We do not use a standard schedule for every client, and we may recommend waiting if treatment is not appropriate.
When can I begin lymphatic massage after a tummy tuck?
There is no single start date that is appropriate for everyone after abdominoplasty, commonly called a tummy tuck. Your surgeon's instructions and your individual recovery determine when treatment may begin.
Celestial Form provides gentle manual lymphatic drainage only when appropriate and after the required clearance. Treatment is adapted to your healing stage and the guidance of your surgical team.
When can I start lymphatic massage after a mommy makeover?
A mommy makeover usually combines several procedures, so there is no single start date that suits everyone. Your surgeon's instructions and your individual recovery determine when treatment may begin and which areas may be treated.
Celestial Form provides gentle manual lymphatic drainage and post-op body sculpting bodywork only when appropriate and after the required clearance, adapted to your healing stage and the guidance of your surgical team.
Do you offer BBL post-operative massage?
Yes. From February 2027, we offer post-operative bodywork for eligible clients recovering from a Brazilian Butt Lift (BBL), subject to medical clearance and the practitioner's professional scope.
BBL recovery involves specific instructions about positioning, pressure, and which areas may be treated. We follow your surgical team's guidance and do not assume that the same techniques are appropriate for every client.
Do I need my surgeon's clearance before treatment?
For post-operative care, we require appropriate medical clearance and review your surgeon's instructions before treatment begins.
If you are unsure whether you are ready for lymphatic massage, contact your surgical team first. We can discuss your circumstances during the initial conversation and explain what information is needed before scheduling treatment.
How many sessions will I need?
It varies with your procedure, how you are healing, and your surgeon's recommendations. We discuss a plan at the start and review it as you recover. We do not promise a fixed number of sessions or a particular result.
Can lymphatic massage reduce swelling after surgery?
Manual lymphatic drainage is used in some care plans to support lymph fluid movement. Whether it is appropriate or beneficial after a particular procedure depends on the individual's circumstances and the available clinical guidance.
It is not a guarantee that swelling will resolve, and it does not replace follow-up with your surgeon. New, worsening, or concerning symptoms should be assessed by your medical team.
Can lymphatic massage prevent fibrosis or remove hard lumps after surgery?
Lymphatic massage cannot be guaranteed to prevent or resolve fibrosis, hardened tissue, or post-operative lumps. These concerns can have different causes and may require assessment by your surgeon or another qualified medical professional.
If you notice a new lump, increasing pain, redness, warmth, or worsening swelling, contact your surgical team before arranging massage.
Who may not be suitable for manual lymphatic drainage?
Suitability depends on your health history and the reason for treatment. Certain conditions, including an active infection or a blood clot, may make manual lymphatic drainage inappropriate. Some heart or kidney conditions and other medical concerns may also require medical evaluation before treatment.
We review relevant health information at the start and may request medical guidance before proceeding. If you have sudden shortness of breath, chest pain, or other potentially urgent symptoms, seek emergency medical care rather than arranging a massage.
What is the difference between nursing care and lymphatic massage?
Nursing care may include clinical services such as wound assessment, drain management, and medication administration, depending on the nurse's role and scope of practice.
Celestial Form provides manual lymphatic drainage and related bodywork, not surgical aftercare or medical treatment. Our clinical leadership informs how we assess suitability, communicate, and follow appropriate care guidance, but our services do not replace your surgeon or medical team.
Do you provide wound care, drain care, or medication administration?
No. These services are not part of our lymphatic massage and bodywork offering. Please contact your surgeon or treating medical team for wound concerns, surgical drains, medication questions, or other medical needs.
If a concern arises that falls outside our service, we will direct you to the appropriate medical professional.
Who provides treatment at Celestial Form?
Celestial Form is guided by a New York State registered nurse with more than 20 years of clinical experience. Treatment is provided by practitioners who are licensed or otherwise authorized under New York State law to provide it.
The practitioner for your visit, their license, and their relevant training are shared with you before treatment begins.
Where do you offer in-home services?
In-home services in Manhattan, Brooklyn, and select North Shore Long Island communities: Manhasset, Roslyn, Greenvale, East Hills, Sands Point, Brookville, and Kings Point.
Services begin in February 2027. Availability is confirmed individually, including confirmation of your address.
How do you confirm that my address is in your service area?
We confirm your address when we follow up, before in-home treatment is scheduled. A mailing address with a similar town name does not guarantee that your address is within our service area, so we check the address itself. Availability is confirmed individually.
What if I live outside your service area?
You are welcome to register your interest. We will confirm availability individually, and we cannot promise service outside the communities listed above.
Do you offer cellulite treatment or body contouring?
Not at this time. Our current services are manual lymphatic drainage and post-operative bodywork. Massage cannot permanently remove cellulite or reduce fat, and we do not present it that way.
What happens during the first conversation?
When services begin, every client starts with a conversation by phone or video. We discuss your needs, goals, relevant health information, and any questions you have about treatment.
For post-operative clients, we also review your procedure, recovery stage, and surgical team's instructions to help determine whether treatment is appropriate. We also confirm your address. This conversation is separate from the in-home treatment.
How much does lymphatic massage cost?
Pricing depends on the service, session length, location, and whether you choose an individual treatment or a package. We share pricing before you commit to treatment.
What should I prepare for my first treatment?
Once your in-home treatment has been scheduled, please have the following available where applicable:
- Your procedure type and date
- Your surgeon's post-operative instructions and required medical clearance
- A current list of medications and relevant health information
- A clean sheet for the treatment surface
We will provide any additional preparation instructions before your treatment.
Can lymphatic massage guarantee faster healing or a particular result?
No. Results vary, and manual lymphatic drainage cannot guarantee faster healing, prevention of complications, a particular surgical result, or a specific body shape. Treatment is intended to be appropriate to the client's needs and circumstances, within the practitioner's professional scope.
Your surgeon remains the authority on your post-operative medical care.
